On September 18th, we said good-bye to Burt Whitley, affectionately known as "Burtimus" to his wife. He fought bravely to Mesothelioma still putting his family's needs ahead of his own.
Burt was a railroader on the Cotton Belt line, he proudly served his country, while serving in the National Guard Army. Burt enjoyed fishing and watching Texas UT Football.
He leaves behind, his wife Lois Whitley, his step-daughters Colleen White, Madison Norton, Lindsay McCowan and her husband Winston, 4 grandchildren: Tierney Young, Noah and Brianna McCowen and Kyera Norton who were the light of his life. He leaves behind his brother Sam Whitley and his wife Judy, his nephew Hank Whitley and his wife Amy and their sons Cody and Caleb Whitley, also leaving behind a host of friends and "partners in crime"
He was preceded in death by his parents Theda Aileen Whitley and Albert P. Whitley Sr.
The family wish to express a special Thank You to Don Dyer for all the support that he has given Burt thoughtout the years.
Visitation will be conducted on Monday, September 22, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Terri Wilson officiating.
Pallbearers will be Don Dyer, Ronnie King, Thomas Lemons, Robert Miller, Jimmy Moore, Winston McCowan and Tony Chancellor.
