Alonzo Shaw, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on December 3,2024, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison. Born on May 17, 1943, in Fannin County to Leonard Shaw and Zenova Austin Shaw, Alonzo's enduring legacy is marked by dedication to his family, his work as a carpenter and farmer, and his vibrant personality that brought joy to those around him.
Alonzo was raised in a loving home that instilled in him the values of hard work and perseverance. He was a proud valedictorian of Braley Pendelton, demonstrating his commitment to education early in life. His career as a carpenter and farmer allowed him to connect deeply with the land, a passion that he carried throughout his life. Alonzo served as a deacon at New Jeruselm Baptist Church.
Alonzo was known for his warm spirit and sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, often bringing laughter into their lives through jokes and playful pranks. His hobbies included farming, fishing, and playing dominos, activities that he cherished and shared with loved ones.
Alonzo is survived by his devoted wife, Theresa Jones Shaw, daughters Daphne Shaw, Sabrina Faye Shaw, Felicia Shaw White, Cashonda Denise Jones, and son Corey "Emonn" Shaw and Courtland Jones. He was proud of his extensive family, which includes 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
He joins in eternal rest his parents, as well as his sons, Alonzo Darnell Shaw and Steven Bernard Shaw. Alonzo was also predeceased by his sisters Rella Collins, Bernice Moore, Clara Horn, and Zenova Joyce Rucker, and his brothers Frank Shaw and Ernest Shaw.
The viewing for Alonzo will take place on December 13, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at Jones - Walker & Son Funeral Home in Commerce, TX. Following this, a funeral service will be held on December 14, 2024, at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bonham, TX, beginning at 2:00 PM with Rev. Ray Godfrey as eulogist. Burial will follow at St. Mark Cemetery in Dodd City.
Pallbearers will be Vincent Jones, Damien Reed, Cordaveion Jones, Cae'Vion Jones, Roland Jones, Daylon Powell, Keith Grant, Jewel Shaw and Kenton Mannis.
Alonzo Shaw leaves behind a rich legacy of love, laughter, and family that will forever be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
