Early Monday morning, January 23, 2012, Bettye's journey came to an end.
Born February 26, 1930 to Hoyt and Lucille Masters Brown at their home in Bailey, Texas, Bettye was the first born of seven children. Bettye was a member of Commerce Church of Christ and graduated from East Texas State University. Bettye taught in Dallas, Texas for thirty three years.
Bettye valued three things above all else: love of God, love of family, and love of education. Bettye took her values and instilled them into her children. She taught them to have a strong love of God, to marry, and have a family of their own, and to obtain a college degree. Her skill as a loving mother enabled all of her children to achieve and live by each value and by doing so each has peace, love, and prosperity.
Poverbs 1:8, Listen my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching.
Bettye is survived by her eldest son James Doudney, his wife Suzanne, and their children Jason, Justin, Ashley, and Lauren; her daughter-in-law Nancy Doudney, her children Nathan and his wife Lauren, Melody, and Ryan; her daughter Marcy McCroskey and her husband Danny and their children Macy and Dee Dee. Bettye is also survived through five siblings Catherine Butler, Forest Brown, Johnny Mack Brown, Evelyne Tarter, and Thomas Brown.
Bettye was preceded in death by her loving husband of forty years Morris Berry in 1999, her son Stephen Doudney in 1994; her first husband Edward Doudney in 1957, her parents and a baby sister Bobbie Faye Brown.
Bettye was a loving Christian wife and mother and a blessing from God to all who knew her.
The family would like to express a deep and sincere thank you to all the staff at Christian Care Center and especially to Janet. From day one they embraced our mother with love and kindness until the end of her journey.
