Charles Earl Goodall, 77, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at his home in Commerce.
He was the first African American assistant football coach at ETSU (now Texas A&M Univeristy - Commerce) in the 1970's. During his tenure, they won a national championship. He was also on the faculty staff at the university and is considered "The Father of Intramural Sports" because he was responsible for starting it there. The College honored him by flying the flag at half-mast 2 days after his passing. It has been a blessing to have so many people share, their hearts about what a wonderful man he was. We knew that already. But, when others say it with such love, it's a bit overwhelming
