Donald Joe Drewry

Donald Joe Drewry, a loving Christian husband, passed from this life to be with his Savior on December 18, 2010, at Hunt Regional Medical Center of Greenville. Don was saved, baptized, and ordained a Deacon at the First Baptist Church in Iraan, Texas, where he worked as a butcher for many years.

Don served his country proudly in the U. S. Army, served in Korea, and was Honorably Discharged as a Sgt. He, with his wife, moved to Commerce from New Mexico in 1971. He was in business for himself in upholstery and also sold used furniture for many years.

He worked for Texas A&M University (East Texas State University) until he retired in 1992.

Don was a Deacon, Sunday School Director; and, later, Associate Sunday School Director at Ridgecrest Baptist Church where he spent lots of time working around the church that he loved so well.

He was born in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, on December 10, 1929, to Ira and Mae Drewry.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Tommye Lou; his brothers: George and wife Betty Drewry of Alpine, Texas, Fay and wife Gay Drewry of Mesa, Arizona, Bill and wife Joyce Drewry of Lovington, New Mexico; his sister, Jane Waldon of Odessa, Texas; his sister-in-law, Wanda Drewry of Commerce, Texas; his half-sister, Barbara Masters of Russellville, Arkansas; 15 nephews; and, 14 nieces.

His parents; brother, Dale Drewry; sister, Bonnie Gaye and husband, Demp Massey; brother-in-law, J. D. Waldon; nephews, Jerry Lynn Guthrie and Dann Drewry preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. in the Ridgecrest Baptist Church of Commerce with Bro. Adam Hailes and Bro. Charles Strickland officiating. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park in Sulphur Springs.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 20, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Pallbearers will be Don's nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

The family has requested that in lieu of usual remembrances, donations be made to the Ridgecrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 918 Bishop Street, Commerce, Texas 75428.
