Dorothea "Dotte" Bennett

Dorothea Virginia (Sparks) Bennett, 85, passed away Sunday, December 21, in Commerce, Texas.

Born in Muddig, Texas, on January 9, 1923, to Tollie Grant and Dot Sparks, Dorothea was a life-long resident of Commerce. She was a former teacher and owner of Sparks Cleaners. On February 14, 1942, she married Herman Houston Bennett, Jr., in Commerce.

Survivors include her husband, Herman Bennett, Jr, of Commerce; a son, Grant (Dawn) Bennett of Garner, North Carolina; a daughter, Dianne (Kin) Lowe of Weslaco, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Bennett of Commerce; 6 grandchildren: Brandi (Stephen) Tice of Commerce, Amanda (West) Ballard of Rockwall, Kyle (Amanda) Lowe of Commerce, and Haley Bennett, Alexandra Bennett, Joshua Bennett and Victoria Bennett of Garner, North Carolina; and, 3 great-grandchildren, Bradley Tice, Aidan Ballard and Adison Ballard.

She was preceeded in death by her parents and one son, Herman Houston "Sonny" Bennett III.

Funeral services for Dorothea "Dotte" Bennett will be conducted on Friday, December 26, at 1:00 PM in the First Baptist Church in Commerce. Brother Johnnie Henderson will officiate.

Interment will follow at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce.

Pallbearers will be Masonic brothers. Honorary pallbearers will be the McDonald's Afternoon Coffee Club.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 23, at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home.
