Elizabeth I (Betty) Hathaway, 92, passed peacefully to her Eternal Home on Monday, May 14, 2018, from Heritage Creek Assisted Living, San Antonio, TX.
She was born on March 19, 1926, in Paris, TX. to William W. Cagle and Aileen F.(Eubank) Cagle. In April, 1946, Betty married the love of her life, Carl C. Hathaway. They graduated in May, 1946, from East Texas State Teachers College, in Commerce. She was in the education field, teaching High School English in the Rio Grande Valley. In 1953 Carl and Betty moved to Dallas and began their career in the furniture industry, establishing their own business, Hathaway Cottage/ later Hathaway Furniture, from 1954 to 1993. Over the years, Betty's life became centered around Carl, her beloved husband of 65 years. She was his invaluable partner in their business and in life. They were founding (1955), active members of Midway Hills Christian Church in Dallas for many years. Travel with family and friends took them to many exciting domestic and international destinations.
Betty is survived by her three devoted children: Rebecca (husband, Gary) Rittenberry, of San Antonio; Debra (husband, David) Gregory, of San Antonio and Bruce Hathaway, of Rutland, Vt.; Sister Mary Jane Hartt, of Marshall, TX; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty will be laid to rest at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce, TX. on Saturday, May 19, 2018; arrangements by Jones-Walker and & Son Funeral Home, 1209 Live Oak Street, Commerce, TX. 75428.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by a graveside service at 12:00 noon.
Many lives have been touched and enriched by Betty's kindness, love and compassion. She leaves behind many life-long and new-found friends.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the many loving administrators and caregivers of Heritage Creek and Encompass Home Health and Hospice Care of San Antonio.

She is gone from our sight, but the fragrance of memories will forever remain in our hearts. We will miss our precious "Momma", "Nanee", Sister, Aunt and Friend.
