Born September 4, 1907, in Jordan, Texas, (near Commerce) in a log cabin to B. O. and Essie (Giddens) Evans. He was one of 7 children.
Ernest is preceeded in death by his wife, Beula (Vaughn) Evans. They met at Branom School, also near Commerce, and were married for 69 years. They had one daughter, Martha.
The Evans family lived in Honey Grove. Texas. where Ernest worked as a farmer. They moved to Dallas in 1951. He then worked for Vought Aircraft until 1975 at the mandatory retirement age of 68. Mr. Evans remained active for all of his 101 years, taking care of both Martha's and his yards and working in his vegetable garden as late as last spring. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Oak Cliff for over 50 years and helped his daughter deliver Meals on Wheels for many years.
Ernest only had an 8th grade education because he had to leave school to work and feed the family. He helped build the road from Commerce to Sulphur Springs in 1925.
