Ernest Demois Rivers, age 94, died Monday, January 16, 2012, at College Station Medical Center in College Station, TX.
Mr. Rivers was born January 9, 1918, in Omaha, Texas. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He earned both the BS and MS degrees from Texas A&M University with majors in agriculture and agronomy. During his career, he worked for the U. S. Soil Conservation Service and the U. S. Bureau of Reclamations as well as for the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences at Texas A&M University.
Survivors include his daughters: Cherry Ann Todd of Hickory, MS, and Sandra Elizabeth Weeks and her husband James of Commerce, TX; his step-son, Hugh Glenn of New York, NY; his two grandsons: Joseph and Kenneth Hillman, Hickory, MS; four great grandchildren: Chase and Shane Hillman of Mandeville, LA, and Daniel Guidry of McMinville, OR, and Christina Jo Hillman, Bahrain and three great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Rivers was preceded in death by his wife Lena Louise Dowling Rivers; his parents, Ross and Lela Rivers; a brother, Anys Rivers; and a great grandson, Jared Hillman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church (2300 Welsh Avenue, College Station, TX 77845), Texas Baptist Children's Home (1101 North Mays Street, Round Rock, TX 78664), or a charity of your choice.
