Frances Muller Street, 96, of Commerce went to be with her Lord on March 21, 2009, at her home surrounded by her children.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church in Commerce with Rev. Beverly Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches, Texas, at 4:00 p.m.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday night at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home in Commerce.
Mrs. Street was born on July 10, 1912, in Nacogdoches to Louis and Floy Duncan Muller. In August of 1936, she married Paul Street in Nacogdoches.
Paul joined the Navy in 1943. She hid his papers for a week hoping that he would not have to leave. After he left for active duty, she moved back home to be with her parents.
Mrs. Street worked at the City Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches. She was an office worker, worked in surgery, patched surgical gowns; and, later, she worked in the OB unit loving and caring for newborn babies. She was also a school teacher.
Upon her husband's return from the Navy, they moved to Commerce where she chose to be a housewife and helpmate to him. He was a Biology Professor at the University. She enjoyed her life with the college.
Mrs. Street was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Commerce since 1946. She sang in the choir, served as an Elder and loved her position teaching children in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She served on various committees and enjoyed the ladies' Circle that met for Bible study.
Until her health started to fail, she was a volunteer at the hospital in Commerce; enjoyed her work at the Bargain Box; and, headed-up the donations for Samaritan's Purse by wrapping boxes for donations.
Mrs. Street's greatest joy was her family. If you were with her for very long, you would know all about her children and grandchildren. She was an extremely gifted seamstress and loved making flannel pajamas and gowns for her children and grandchildren every Christmas. Everyone knew what they were getting because it was her tradition. She als0 made sure everyone had a Christmas stocking that she made. They were all alike.
She was a member of the University Dames and the Retired Teachers Association.
Frances Street never met a stranger. She had a sincere love for people and a genuine interest in everyone she met. If you were in a waiting room at a doctor's office with her for five minutes, she would have found out all about you.
We were so blessed to have a mother and grandmother that set the example in her daily life of how to love others and the Lord. We never heard her say a bad word about anyone. Her prayer life exceeded all others!
Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte Johnson and husband John of Rowlett; two sons, Bob Street of Commerce and Frank Street and wife Claudette of Greenville. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Adam Johnson of Rowlett and Shannon Millard and husband Bart of Greenville; four great-great- grandchildren, Sam, Gracie, Charlie, and Sophie Millard of Greenville ; several cousins, nieces, nephews; her special helper and friend, Angie Morse of Wolfe City; and, her caregivers, Patria and Claudia Record.
She was preceeded in death by her parents; her husband in 1976; and, a grandson, Christopher Street, in 2004.
This is now farewell for us; but, we will see you later.
