Tommie (Gaston) Dodd, 81, of Klondike, TX made his trip to Heaven to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, April 27, 2013. Gaston was born on August 8, 1931 in Dallas, Texas to Thomas (Tom) Jefferson and Nettie Lee Hooten Dodd of Klondike, TX.
On August 1, 1951, Gaston married Nelma Holley of Commerce. During their almost 62 years of marriage they became the parents of a son, Tommie Joe Dodd of Dallas, TX, and twin daughters, Joette English and husband Jace of Ben Wheeler, TX and Colette Newman and husband Lloyd Dean of Commerce, TX. These children blessed the Dodds with four grandchildren, Christina Tribble, who preceded him in death at the age of 10, Johnathen English of Ben Wheeler, Jessica Newman Duckworth and husband Jon of Cooper, TX and Brandon Newman and wife Melissa of Whitburn, West Lothian, Scotland. From these grandchildren came great-grandchildren Haley and Alexis Newman of Scotland and EmmaLee, Sam and Lillie Duckworth of Cooper, TX.
Gaston was raised on a farm with a brother, R.C. Dodd and sister Edna Jane Dodd Harmon. He worked for Jones Funeral Home and was a concrete contractor for a number of years. He also worked as a ranch foreman and was the owner of Dodd's Fina in Commerce, TX. In the late 1980's, Gaston became a Delta County Commissioner and retained this position until his health forced him to leave the work world in 1992.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2012. The funeral service will be Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Brandon Newman and Rev. Terry Holley officiating.
Pallbearers will be: Ricky Thompson, Ted Carrington, Eddie Wheeler, Richard Dodd, Randy Dodd and Scott Harmon.
