Glenn Max Ward, 85, passed away in Commerce on Wednesday, December 9, 2009.

Glenn was born April 20, 1924, in Klondike, TX, to Harry C. Ward and Myrle Otney Bledsoe Ward. Glenn's father was a pharmacist.

Glenn attended public schools in Klondike, TX. He graduated from Klondike High School in 1941. He briefly attended East Texas State Teacher's College for one semester in 1942 until he was drafted into the Army. His basic training was at Fort Hood in Killeen, TX. He was discharged from the Army in 1946.

He attended the University Of Texas School Of Pharmacy and graduated in 1949. After returning home, he met Jean Knight of Commerce in 1949; and, they were married in 1950. Ward, along with his father, purchased the Oliver's Pharmacy in 1954.

Glenn and his brother - James R. Ward - operated the Ward's Drug Store on Washington Street in Commerce.

Glenn was the past president of the North Texas Pharmaceutical Association, past president of the Lion's Club, past Master of the Commerce Masonic Lodge #439, a former member of the School Board, and a board member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Ward, of Commerce; his children: Merle Jean Ward and partner, Laurie Bednarski of Poetry, TX, and, Audrey Ann Ward Moffett and husband, William Moffett Jr., of Carrollton, TX; his brother, Harry Ward Jr. of Galveston, TX; a sister-in-law, Dot Ward of Commerce, TX; a grandson, Billy Moffett III of Carrollton, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, James R. Ward and Jimmy Ward; and a son, Glenn Martin Ward.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December, 13, 2009, in the Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home chapel in Commerce with Rev. Lisa Greenwood-Wolcott of the First United Methodist Church officiating.

Committal services will follow at Rosemound Cemetery.
