Hazel Jean Schwartz

Hazel Jean Weatherbee Schwartz, 72, passed away on August 30, 2010 in Commerce. She was born on September 5, 1937, to John and Lona Follis Weatherbee in Commerce.

Hazel married Robert George Schwartz on January 26, 1968 in Commerce. He passed away on September 10, 1997.

She was a graduate of Commerce High School and the East Texas University Police Academy. She worked at the Palace Theater, Deluxe Cleaners, Russell Shoe Store, Commerce Wal-Mart, and as a reserve Police Officer in Caddo Mills, TX, where she later became their acting Chief of Police.

Hazel was a member of the Commerce High School Alumni, Texas Police Association, Commerce Lions Club, Commerce Rebecca Lodge, and Mt. Zion Baptist Church Ladies Organization.

Hazel's passions were her family, cooking, animals, law enforcement, travel, gardening, and celebrating holidays. These were all important in her life.

She is survived by her sister Lucille Weatherbee; her daughter, Donna Baker Spinato and son-in-law Joe Spinato; her son, Anthony (Tony) Robert Schwartz; a granddaughter, Christin Spinato Allgood, a great granddaughter, Carlie Spinato. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, police brothers and sisters, special family, friends, and neighbors.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband; her brothers: Johnny B. Weatherbee, Charles Clifton (Buddy) Weatherbee; her sisters: Viola Hamilton, Almedia Weatherbee, and Willie Mitchell.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2010, at the First Baptist Church with Bro. Roy Lee Dittmar, Johnnie Hendricks, and Dr. Lavelle Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemound Cemetery.

Visitation will be conducted at the church prior to services from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Vaughn, Jason Bone, Kerry Crews, Terry Miller, Joe Webber, and Robert Sanders.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lupe Martinez, Bob Monday, JR Belcher, and the Commerce Lions Club.

Memorial donations can be made in her honor to the Commerce ISD Educational Enrichment Foundation or American Cancer Society.
