Janet Currin, 69, of Klondike finished her battle with cancer on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Oak Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Commerce, Tx. She was born in Dallas, Texas on October 15, 1954, the daughter of Alton Wood and Mary Lillian Trevilion Wood. Janet shared the last 38 years of her life with her husband, Jerry and they enjoyed doing a number of things together: including serving on the Klondike Volunteer Fire Department and travelling to different Barbeque cookoffs. While on the KVFD, Janet served and the secretary/treasurer. She also claimed the tanker truck as her own and drove it to all the fires that she could. She also was a licensed dispatcher and jailer for the Delta County Sheriffs Office, and served as a paramedic in Hopkins County as well. She was voted as the "First Responder of the Year" in Delta County. Jerry says that Janet was a very good cook, and that her brownies were the best ever. Janet loved her community center in Klondike which she was instrumental in helping to get organized and built, and she made sure that everything was always done "just right"! In her spare time she loved to go to the casino where she usually would win while Jerry would loose; you could be sure that she was not about to share any of her winnings with him either.
She is survived by her husband Jerry, children: Chris Steedman, Jason Steedman and Rodney Currin, grandchildren: Tiffney Steedman, Caden Steedman, Addison Steedman, Madison Steedman, Caroline Steedman and Jordan Currin. Janet was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Donald Wood, Jerry Wood and her twin, John Wood.
Visitation for Janet will be held Sunday night, April 21, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at the Jones-Walker Funeral Chapel in Commerce. Her funeral service will be Monday, April 22, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. First United Methodist Church in Commerce, Tx. Interment will follow the service at the Old Klondike Cemetery in Klondike, Tx. at 12:00 p.m. with Chuck Toles, Tanner Crutcher, Robert Douglas, Rocky Young, Seth Cox, Jordan Currin and Caden Steedman serving as pallbearers. Brother Terry Bryan will officiate.
