Funeral services for Jocie Catherine Speight, age 90, of Fairlie, TX, will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wesley McCasland, Bro. Jerry Speight and Bro. John Horn officiating.

Burial will follow at the Sonora Cemetery in Fairlie, TX with Robert Galvan, Tammy Giles, Robert Lee Speight, James Speight, Jackie White and Ronnie White serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kerry Miller and Second McQueary.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.

Mrs. Speight passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009 at her residence.

Mrs. Speight was born on October 17, 1918 in Scurry, TX, the daughter of John William Ballard, Sr. and Lottie Frances Pickle. She married Carl Edmon Speight on February 22, 1939 in Delta County. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Speight was known as everybody's Granny. She was the best cook in the world and loved to bake pies. During the holidays she would make all of the kid's their own pie. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two sons, William Preston Speight and wife Bettie and Danny Carl Speight and wife Jennifer all of Commerce, brother, John William Ballard, Jr. and wife Helen of Greenville, sister, Genetty Childers and husband Mervin of Arlington, 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Timothy Ballard and sister, Winona Melton. A special thank you to Nelda Doss and 1st Choice Home Health of Commerce for their love and care and to her wonderful caregiver, Thelma Holley.
