Kenneth Ray McCord passed away after a brief illness at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas on Wednesday, February 16, 2011.
Kenneth McCord, son of Elmo and Ottie Norman McCord, was born November 18, 1925, in the High Community in Van Zandt County. Kenneth graduated from Canton High School in 1943. He was inducted into the service of his country in January 1945. He attended East Texas State University (now Texas A&M - Commerce) receiving his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees. He received his PhD in Accounting from the University of Oklahoma in 1967.
He taught in the Daingerfield High School in Daingerfield, TX, for 5 years. In 1959 he joined the faculty of East Texas State University (Texas A&M University - Commerce) and taught accounting for 40 years. He retired in 1995.
Kenneth married Joyce Dewbre on March 19, 1975; and, they made their home in Commerce. Kenneth was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church. He served as treasurer of the First Presbyterian Church in Commerce for 9 years. He had also been a Sunday School teacher and had served on various boards.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Ottie Norman McCord of Canton, TX; and, a sister, Mattie Bell Kinney of Wills Point, TX.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Joyce, of Commerce; three sisters: Veta Burns of Canton, TX, Jo and Jack Marvin of Fresno, CA, and Wanda Fae and Robert Westmoreland of Canton, TX; 5 nieces; and 6 nephews.
Visitation will be held at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Commerce on Friday, February 18, 2011, from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in Commerce, TX, on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Commerce with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Rev. Mary Alley Lyman will officiate.
Funeral services in Canton, TX, will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Eubank Funeral Home chapel. Rev. Steve Glosup will officiate.
Interment will follow in Haven of Memories.
The family asks that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 1216 Monroe Street, Commerce, TX 75428, to Commerce Meals on Wheels, or to a charity of your choice.
