Lillian Griffey Selvaggi passed away on July 3, 2023 at the age of 95.
She is survived by her six children: Virginia Selvaggi, Richard Selvaggi, MD ( with his wife Dr. Tina Fletcher), Sue Nixson ( with her husband Tony Nixson), Thomas Selvaggi, MD, Ross Selvaggi, Jr, Stuart Selvaggi, along with 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Lillian graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1950 with a degree in mathematics and physics. She also received a degree in meteorology from New York University in 1952.She did graduate work at New York University, the University of Texas, and Auburn University.
She met her husband Ross L. Selvaggi in Officer Candidate School when she joined the U.S. Air Force. She was commissioned as a second lieutenant.
They married in 1952 and were married for 55 years before his death.
While raising their six children, Lillian taught mathematics in schools and in the GED programs in Japan, Fairbanks, Alaska, Montgomery, Alabama, Tehran, Iran, and Austin, Texas.
She was very active in the community over the years in Scouting, sports like tennis, skiing, golf, camping, and travelling.
Later in life, she was very active in volunteer work with Meals-on-wheels, Foster Grandparenting, and being a Eucharistic minister in her church.
Her wake will be held at home on July 6 and July 7. Her funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Commerce, Texas on July 8 at 11 am.
Her burial take place at Assumption Cemetery in Austin, Texas on July 10.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to the Salvation Army or charity of choice.
