Michael Edward Mathis Sr., 68, of Hutchins passed away in Dallas on Saturday, December 30, 2023. He was born on July 22, 1955 in Vicksburg, MS to James Edward Mathis and Yvonne Elizabeth Mahon. Michael served his country proudly in the United States Army. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good conduct medal, Marksman Badge, Army Service ribbon and the Overseas Service ribbon.
Michael is survived by his longtime girlfriend Vicki Van Asperen of Hutchins, sons: Michael Edward Mathis Jr. and wife Claudia of Parrish, FL, Derek Michael Mathis of Richfield, MN and stepson Richard Gage and wife Jessica; daughters: Christina Michele Horton and husband Robert of Wolfe City, Natasha Elise Mathis and husband Stephen of Bedford, stepdaughter: Gina Meeks and husband Jeremy of Hutchins and Tina Meeks of Hubbard; grandchildren: Tre Robison, Shyla Horton, Cheyenne Stratton, Lynda Horton, Bailey Carter, Caleb Mathis, Hayley Mathis, AJ Mathis and Josiah Pharis; great grandchildren: Tristin Horton, Bailee Stratton, Lainey Stratton and Stetson Young.
He was preceded in death by his parents: James Mathis and Yvonne Mahon and a brother Steven Mathis.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M. at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Todd Barnes officiating. Burial will follow service at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City.
Pallbearers are Michael Mathis Jr, Robert Horton, Jason Horton, Randall Stratton, Trey Young, Richard Gage, Stephen Slatt and Michael Allen. Honorary pallbeaer is Tre Robison.
