Oneida Clifton

Oneida Clifton, 90, of Commerce died peacefully at home on February 13, 2010.

Born in Gilmer, Texas, she moved to Commerce to attend college. She married Harry G. Clifton in 1940. She graduated from East Texas State College with a Master of Education and taught school in Dallas for 30 years.

Oneida was very involved in many community affairs and volunteerism after her retirement in 1977.

She is survived by her 3 daughters: Jean Simms, Kay Hale, and Dixie Watson; her brother, Donal Bailey; 8 grandchildren: Stacey, Lori, Aimee, Tami, Tony, Angie, Justin, and Jessica; 10 great-grandchildren: Austin, Lindsey, Heather, Hunter, Hayden, Carroll, Bailey, Brittny, Ryder, and Elvis; a great-great-grandchild, Rory; and her loving companion, Neal Wright.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in the First Christian Church of Commerce.

Interment will follow at Rosemound Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 19, 2010, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home.

The family requests that in lieu of usual remembrances, donations be made to the First Christian Church, 1101 Sycamore Street, Commerce, TX 75428.
