Rena Jenkins Myers, 97, of Commerce, went to be with her Lord and Savior and beloved husband, Dennis, on Friday, March 12, 2010. Services will be conducted on Sunday, March 14th at 2:00 p.m. at Jones-Walker & son Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Joel Arnold will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service.
Rena was born November 26, 1912, in Cotter, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Canzada Queary Jenkins and William Lee Jenkins. She married Dennis Myers in Commerce on September 16, 1930.
She professed her faith at a very early age and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Commerce. Rena was one of the oldest members on the church roll.After spending her early childhood in Arkansas and Oklahoma, Rena moved with her family to Texas at a very early age. Her schooling was in the Commerce area.
An accomplished seamstress, Rena made clothes for her daughter without a pattern. She sewed for her granddaughter making beautiful clothes. She was an inspector for Leiter Martin and Gordon Edward Manufacturing Company. She retired from White's Dry Goods in 1979 as a salesperson. After retirement, she took special care of all of her family.
Rena had lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Commerce before moving to Oak Manor Nursing Home in 2008.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dennis; her mother and father; and four sisters: Cordelia and Ella Jenkins, Edna Redmon, and Cuba Freeman.
Rena is survived by her daughter Jane and husband Jimmy White of Commerce; her granddaughter, Dawn and husband Gary Bohannon of Ector; her great-grandson, Derek and wife Kayla of Bonham; her great-grandson, Scott Bohannon of Ector; two great-granddaughters: Amy and Briana Bohannon of Ector; her sister, Dean Mullins of Commerce; her special nieces: Doris Wade, Margaret Ferrell, and Myra Beadles; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Also, Lela Brock who has been so devoted sending prayer grams and phone calls.
Pallbearers are Derek Bohannon, Scott Bohannon, Ryan Beadles, Johnnie Wade, David Bohannon, and Chance Peeler.
Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Beadles, James Myers, Gus Esguada, W.C. Ferrell, Jr., Dave Carwell, Ronnie Myers, Dee Myers, and David Myers.
This is not goodbye because we will see you later in a much better place.
