Robert Kayne Oltman 69, of Commerce passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013, in McKinney.
Bob was born on April 4, 1943, to E.W. and Alice Oltman in Alliance, NE. He was raised in Ogallala, NE.
Bob honorably served our country in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966. While serving our country, he met and married Martha (Mitzi) Irene Sheehan, who was also serving in the United States Air Force. They were married in the March Air Force Base Chapel in Riverside, CA., on December 5, 1964.
Bob attended and graduated from the California State Polytechnic University in Pomona with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Bob worked in the Petroleum Industry for Champlin Petroleum, Southern Pacific Pipelines, Conoco Oil and ESCO Manufacturing in Greenville Texas. While with Conoco Oil in the early 1980's, he worked in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and Tripoli, Libya, designing, writing and teaching programming codes for an Industry First Automated Remote Tanker Loading System in the Persian Gulf. In 1989, Bob became a Franchisee Owner of Subway and opened a shop in Commerce, TX., until his retirement in 2005 .
Bob enjoyed doing Crosswords, playing Sudoku and card games such as Duplicate Bridge, Poker and Nebraska Pitch. Bob was also a willing substitute with Mitzi's bridge groups, much to the delight of the ladies. He served on the United Way Board of Directors; he was a member of the Commerce Lions and Rotary Clubs through which he hosted Foreign exchange camp students in his home for Texas A & M University in Commerce.
Bob is survived by his wife of 48 years; his two brothers: William and his wife Diane Oltman of Bellingham, WA, and Jerry and his wife Sondra Oltman, of Lecanto, FL; his two daughters: Karen Loney and her husband Scott of Justin, TX. and Robin McEnany and her husband Mark Garcia of Wylie, TX; his granddaughter, Ellen Hamilton of Mesquite, TX.; his six grandsons: Brandon Keck, Christopher, Nick and Zack Loney, and Kyle and Cameron McEnany; and, his great-granddaughter Kynslee Rose Hamilton.
Over the years, all 9 of Bob's beloved dogs were rescue animals.
