Roy Edward Talley

Services for Roy Edward (Jake) Talley are scheduled for Sunday, 2:30 PM, at the First Baptist Church with burial in Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce. Services are under the direction of Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home. Jake passed away Thursday night, November 13, in Hunt Regional Community Hospital of Commerce.

He was born to Claude and Dezzie Talley July 16, 1917, in Farmersville. The Talley family moved to Commerce soon after his birth.

He met and married Thelma Jo Petty in 1936 and they spent 68 years together. They have one son, Mike, of Austin. Jake, Jo, and Mike were members of the First Baptist Church in Commerce. He is a veteran of World War II.

A life-long resident of Commerce, Jake was a master auto mechanic, working for Commerce Motor Co. as a service manager for Buick. He received several commendations from the Buick Motor Division.

He also worked with his brother, Lee Talley, at Talley Auto. In the days before computers, Jake could stand back and listen to a motor and he could tell you exactly which cylinder was missing.

Jake also worked for McKnight Construction Co. before he joined the maintenance department at Texas A&M-Commerce taking care of the air conditioning on campus.

Jake is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Aubrey (Buddy), Luther, Willard, and Lee, and his wife, Jo. Son, Mike, and a host of nephews and nieces survive him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church in Commerce or to the Rosemound Cemetery Association, PO Box 408, Commerce, Texas 75428.
