Tommy Joe Burns of Lone Oak passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2011. He was 81 years old.
Tommy was born on June 3, 1930, in Sulphur Springs, TX, to Lula Bell Mitchell and Neal Edward (Buster) Burns. On October 24, 1953, he married Martha Jane Young in Dallas, TX. He was a paint contractor.
Tommy was interested in photography, gardening, and playing his board game - Get Old Red - and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his sister, Cecil Ferrell; his brothers: Baby Burns, Bobbie K. Burns, James Truitt Burns, William Taylor Burns, Robbie Burns; and, his son, Joseph Neal Burns.
Survivors include his son, Mark Burns and wife Lezlie of Dallas; his daughters: Cheryl Wilson and husband Bruce, of Richardson, Elaine Burns and life partner Mary Sloan of Dallas; his brother, Luther Burns of Bells; his sisters: Betty Lou Hobbs of Richardson and Billy Ruth Tunnell of Richardson; his grandsons: Michael Douglas Jr. and wife Renia, Stephen Spears and wife Leslie; his granddaughters: Brandi Spears, Amber Richards and husband John, Carli Smith and husband Mike; his great-grandsons Blake Spears; Cooper Smith and Colton Richards and his great-granddaughters: Aubrey Garmon, Miranda Smith and Cierra Douglas.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 27,2011, at 10:00 a.m. in Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Tunnell officiating.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m until service time.
Interment will follow in Ridgeway Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mark Burns, Stephen Spears, Michael Douglas, Melvin Thompson, James Travis Hobbs and Gary Don Ferrell.
Buddy Ferrell, Don Ferrell, Oliver Solcruz and Chance Thompson will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
