Zelema Allen

Zelema Allen, 92, of Honey Grove passed away on November 27, 2016, in Honey Grove. She was born on September 29, 1924, in Fannin County, Texas, to Ola Langley and Lee Johnson. She was a home health provider.

Zelema was a Christian woman and a very faithful member of Christian Chapel CME Church in Honey Grove where she sang in the choir and was the past President of the choir. She was an active member of her church until her health began to fail. She was also a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family and had many friends. Zelema loved to cook and would feed anyone that came to her home.

Survivors include her daughters: Claudetta Allen Couts of Honey Grove and Beulah Perkins of Cooper; her brother, Choice Johnson of Bonham; her sister, Bessie Nelson of Honey Grove; her 100 plus grandchildren; her 150 plus great-grandchildren; her great-great grandchildren; her great-great-great grandchildren; and, her great-great-great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Allen; her sons: J. C. Allen and Gene Allen; her daughters: Ruby Mae Adams, Ola L. Shaw, Veralene Couts and Lee Ola Chaffin.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Jewel Shaw Jr., Brent Johnson, Quincy Adams, Daniel Adams, Jason Johnson, Rijohn Adams and Kenneth Shaw.

Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren: Cody Battle, Cam Brooks, Malcom John, B. J. Bond, Michael Plummer II, Brandon Courts, Cam Bradley and Ralph Adams.

Viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016, at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home in Commerce.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Christian Chapel CME Church in Honey Grove, Texas, with Rev. Esther F. Lawson as Eulogist and Rev. Cedric Barksdale will officiate.

Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Honey Grove.

Interment services follow church services.
